Our 10th Anniversary
Help Us to Thrive
10 years ago this month, I first posted WantToKnow.info to the Internet. Thanks to the Internet Archive, which takes and stores snapshots of entire websites on a regular basis, you can see the primitive look of WantToKnow.info on February 6, 2003 by clicking here. This was just days after I first posted it. The entire website at that time consisted of less than a dozen webpages.
I knew almost nothing about creating a website at that time, not even how to set margins on a webpage. Yet I was very clear that this was a major part of my mission in life. You can explore how WantToKnow.info (WTK) gradually grew and became increasingly professional by selecting various years and dates from the bar graph at the top of the page available at this link.
10 years later, WTK is now close to reaching 12 million total visits and has surpassed the 20 million mark for total number of webpages viewed. The website currently has many thousands of highly informative webpages with links to verify almost all of the highly revealing information presented. Parts of the website have been translated into several languages and many thousands of other websites link to WTK as a reliable source of rich information.
I started the WantToKnow.info email list in early 2003 with around 200 subscribers, mostly friends of mine. It has now grown to over 11,000 subscribers from more than 140 countries around the world. Among our subscribers are members of the U.S. Congress, many professors, successful authors, whistleblowers, and thousands of caring people like you who want to make a difference in our world.
Around the time I first posted WTK to the Internet, I also created several other websites more focused on love and empowerment. I felt this to be very important as a balance to the challenging and sometimes disturbing information on WTK. Though not nearly as popular as WTK, these websites soon touched and inspired many thousands around the globe.
As WTK and these other websites grew in popularity, several supporters encouraged me and those who were now volunteering to set up a nonprofit organization to oversee all of these transformational websites. And so it was that PEERS (Public Education and Empowerment Resource Service) was born in early 2006. This then allowed donors to make tax-deductible contributions and gave us other benefits of serving as an educational nonprofit organization.
PEERS and WantToKnow.info could not survive and thrive without the wonderful support we've received from over 1,000 individuals over the years. Thank you so much to each and every one of you who have helped fund this important work. And thanks to all who have helped spread the word widely around the globe.
You've helped us to have a powerful influence in many spheres. As one example, renowned theologian David Ray Griffin, among the most respected voices of the 9/11 movement, first learned about the 9/11 cover-up in 2003 on our website. For a more complete and colorful history of the development and significant influence of WTK and PEERS in our world, click here.
I'm writing to you now both to celebrate 10 years of this transformational work and to ask for you support. I am the only one working full time for PEERS with the support of two paid part-time staff and numerous volunteers. If we had even one more full-time staff member, I have no doubt that we could reach a far greater number of people and make a much bigger difference in our world.
We are currently about $3,300 in the red for this year. Will you help us not only to get out of the red, but to move towards increasing our staff so that we can spread this important work ever farther? You can make a one-time donation or help us even more with a monthly donation. Monthly donations are particularly helpful, as they allow us to make future plans knowing we have the support to back it up. Please use the link below for either of these options to support us in building a better world for all of us.
To send a check or money order, please make your donation out to PEERS and mail it to:
1607 Francisco St.
Berkeley, CA 94703 USA
If you are uncertain about making a contribution, we ask you to consider the value of our work both to you personally and to our world. Then ask yourself, is the work of WantToKnow.info worth the price of a good book or a good meal in a restaurant to you? If so, we encourage you to donate that amount or more to support our work. Even $5 makes a difference.
Amazon.com referral program
Amazon has a great program through which we earn a percentage of anything you buy. The two links below take you to amazon's home page using a code in the URL identifying that we referred you, so that PEERS gets up to 10% of the sale, depending on the kind of item you purchase. As long as you enter through one of these links, any purchases you make support our work.
If you shop at amazon and want to support us at no extra cost to yourself, please bookmark or favorite one of the links below and use it any time you want to purchase something on amazon. The first link (amazon.com) is for North America, while the second (amazon.co.uk) is for the UK and Europe.
Please note that you will not receive notification of your use of this referral program, but know that you are helping us any time you make a purchase using this link. We've already earned over $6,000 in three years through the support of people like you with this program.
After 10 years of doing this rich and meaningful work, I am thrilled with all that we've done, all the great connections made with supporters, with movers and shakers, and with insider sources from around the word. And I so appreciate the interest we receive from people like you. Thank you so much for your support. Your generous help is greatly appreciated. With your help, I suspect that 10 years from now, we may live in a much more loving and supportive world.
