Where do all those billions of dollar pumped into vaccine research and manufacturing go? Big Pharma has always made big profits on vaccines, as have their CEOs. Can we trust them to place pubic interest above profit?
Vaccines are among big pharma’s best-selling products
Financial Times, April 24, 2016
“Ask people to name Pfizer’s best-selling product and many would opt for one of its most famous drugs: Viagra, for erectile dysfunction, or Lipitor, to reduce high cholesterol. But they would all be wrong. The top-seller is not a drug but a vaccine: Prevnar, which prevents pneumonia, meningitis and other infections caused by pneumococcus bacteria. Prevnar generated revenues of $6.25bn last year — almost three times as much as Viagra. Pfizer is one of just four pharma groups with large vaccines operations. All four reported stronger sales growth in vaccines than in pharmaceuticals last year and operating margins were comparable with pharma at around 25-30%."
Pfizer CEO Sold Millions In Stock After Coronavirus Vaccine News, Raising Questions
CBS News, November 11, 2020
“The chairman and CEO of Pfizer, Albert Bourla, sold $5.6 million worth of stock in the pharmaceutical company on Monday. The sale took place on the same day Pfizer announced that its experimental coronavirus vaccine candidate was found to be more than 90% effective."
Moderna executives hiked their stock sales after announcing positive vaccine trial
CBS News, July 21, 2020
“Moderna CEO Stéphane Bancel more than tripled the number of his company shares to be sold through an executive stock plan that was changed just days after the biotech in May announced positive early results for its coronavirus vaccine. Bancel sold more than 72,000 Moderna shares in the first 16 days of July, generating nearly $4.8 million for the executive. Another top Moderna executive, President Stephen Hoge, also had his pre-programmed executive trading plan reset around the same time. The change allowed him to sell $1.9 million worth of Moderna stock in the first two weeks of July."
Huge Pharmaceutical Lawsuits and Settlements
Considering the huge settlements below and many other lawsuits where big Pharma placed profits above safety, how much can we trust the makers of these vaccines? These companies have paid billions to settle lawsuits against them for damage suffered by millions, yet the CEOs who often knew about their corporation's illegal practices have consistently escaped all penalties. See a list of the 20 largest pharmaceutical settlements, the smallest of which was for $345 million.
Pfizer Pays $2.3 Billion to Settle Marketing Case
Financial Times, Sep. 2, 2009
“The pharmaceutical giant Pfizer agreed to pay $2.3 billion to settle civil and criminal allegations that it had illegally marketed its painkiller Bextra, which has been withdrawn. It was the largest health care fraud settlement and the largest criminal fine of any kind ever."
Drug Giant AstraZeneca to Pay $520 Million to Settle Fraud Case
ABC News, April 27, 2010
“Pharmaceutical giant AstraZeneca will pay $520 million in fines to settle charges by the federal government that it illegally marketed the anti-psychotic drug Seroquel to children and elderly patients for uses not approved by the Food and Drug Administration. AstraZeneca, one of the country's biggest drug firms, allegedly pulled in hundreds of millions of taxpayer dollars through Medicare and Medicaid kickbacks and scams."
Curbing Drug-Company Abuses: Are Fines Enough?
Time Magazine, July 21, 2020
“Critics are starting to question these settlements, pointing out that even such large fines have yet to make a serious dent in recurring marketing abuses. AstraZeneca's fine represented just 16.5% of revenue earned from Seroquel. Since companies can roll the costs of such fines into future drug prices, the penalties become just another cost of doing business. That means Americans get whammed twice. The first involves hundreds of millions of dollars in unnecessary reimbursements paid out by Medicare and Medicaid. [Secondly,] the corporate integrity agreements that are part of many of these settlements have been too loose to curb future abuses."
Government Propaganda in Swine Flu Scare Causes Many Deaths
CBS 60 Minutes, Nov. 4, 1979
"Remember the swine flu scare of 1976? That was the year the U.S. government told us all that swine flu could turn out to be a killer that could spread across the nation. Washington decided that every man, woman and child in the nation should get a shot to prevent a nation-wide outbreak, a pandemic. 46 million of us obediently took the shot, and now 4,000 Americans are claiming damages from Uncle Sam ... because of what happened when they took that shot. There are 300 claims now pending from the families of GBS [Guillain-Barre Syndrome] victims who died, allegedly as a result of the swine flu shot." (Watch this incredible 60 Minutes video to see how government and the head of the CDC lied to spread fear and get all to take this unproven vaccine.)
No Pharma Liability, Little Chance of Compensation for Vaccine Injuries
Covid-19 vaccine manufacturers are protected from all liability – if you are injured, you can't sue them. Manufacturers have complete indemnity. Neither can you sue the U.S. government, though you can file a claim and get some limited compensation if you are lucky enough to win your case.
People Harmed by Coronavirus Vaccines Will Have Little Recourse
Wall Street Journal, Oct. 11, 2020
“The U.S. government paid out $4.4 billion over more than 30 years covering injuries relating to a host of vaccines... but payouts for potential injuries from Covid-19 vaccines will be covered by a far less-generous program. The new fund has a tougher threshold for proving a relationship between an injury and the vaccine. [It] has a shorter statute of limitations, no avenue for appeals and doesn’t pay damages for pain or suffering. Renée Gentry, director of the Vaccine Injury Litigation Clinic at George Washington University [said] 'The countermeasures compensation program is effectively a right to file and lose.'
You can’t sue Pfizer or Moderna if you have severe Covid vaccine side effects. The government likely won’t compensate you for damages either
CNBC, Dec. 17, 2020
“Under the PREP Act, companies like Pfizer and Moderna have total immunity from liability if something unintentionally goes wrong with their vaccines. A government program provides benefits to people who can prove they suffered serious injury. That program rarely pays, covering just 29 claims over the last decade. You also can’t sue the FDA for authorizing a vaccine for emergency use, nor can you hold your employer accountable if they mandate inoculation. The quickest vaccine ever developed was for mumps. It took four years. Pfizer’s Covid-19 vaccine was developed and cleared for emergency use in eight months. Can you sue the U.S. government if you have an extraordinarily bad reaction to a vaccine? The answer is no."
Public Readiness and Emergency Preparedness Act
COVID-19 PREP Act Declarations
"The Public Readiness and Emergency Preparedness Act (PREP Act) ... provides immunity from liability (except for willful misconduct) for claims of loss caused, arising out of, relating to, or resulting from administration or use of countermeasures to diseases, threats and conditions [and] to entities and individuals involved in the development, manufacture, testing, distribution, administration, and use of such countermeasures."
Rare vaccine injury claims steered to obscure federal office
MSN/AP, Dec. 22, 2020
"Though most people who protect themselves with a coronavirus vaccine will never develop serious side effects, such rare cases are barred from federal court and instead steered to an obscure program with a record of seldom paying claims. The Countermeasures Injury Compensation Program, which was set up specifically to deal with vaccines under emergency authorization, has just four employees and few hallmarks of an ordinary court. Decisions are made in secret by government officials [and] claimants can’t appeal to a judge. That stands in contrast to the much more established federal vaccine court."
mRNA Vaccines – a Form of Genetic Engineering – Never Before Used on Humans
mRNA vaccines have been rushed into production with hundreds of millions of doses miraculously available after being developed in just a few months. This will be the first mass experiment of genetically engineering our cells for a desired response. There is no way of knowing the long-term effects or unintended consequences of these vaccines. No mRNA vaccine has ever made it to market, but some have tried. These will be the first to be approved, if they are. Are you interested in being the guinea pig in this trail which has not been fully tested or approved?
Four takeaways from the race for a COVID-19 vaccine
Los Angeles Times, Nov. 18, 2020
"A new method of making vaccines has arrived. Both the Moderna and Pfizer vaccines were created using a new method that combines genetic engineering and immunotherapy. They’re called mRNA vaccines, and their aim is ... to teach the immune system to recognize and attack a viral invader. Instead of delivering the proteins themselves, mRNA vaccines deliver a genetic program so that the body’s cellular machinery can make the proteins on-site. Over time, rigorous monitoring studies will clarify the pros and cons of the various vaccines."
Suspicions grow that nanoparticles in Pfizer’s COVID-19 vaccine trigger rare allergic reactions
Science, Dec. 21, 2020
"Severe allergy-like reactions in at least eight people who received the COVID-19 vaccine produced by Pfizer and BioNTech over the past 2 weeks may be due to a compound in the packaging of the messenger RNA (mRNA) that forms the vaccine’s main ingredient, scientists say. A similar mRNA vaccine developed by Moderna ... also contains the compound, polyethylene glycol (PEG). PEG has never been used before in an approved vaccine, but it is found in many drugs that have occasionally triggered anaphylaxis—a potentially life-threatening reaction. Some allergists and immunologists believe a small number of people previously exposed to PEG may have high levels of antibodies against PEG, putting them at risk of an anaphylactic reaction to the vaccine."
Everything You Need to Know About mRNA, the COVID-19 Vaccine's Secret Weapon
Popular Mechanics, Nov. 30, 2020
"An mRNA vaccine has never been approved before. After a remarkably accelerated development period, two experimental COVID-19 vaccines are almost ready for primetime. Both use a technology called messenger RNA (mRNA), which has been studied and experimented with for decades ... but has never been used in a commercial vaccine. “Messenger” genetics ... deliver genetic information to parts of your body, usually in order to overwrite or erase the genetic information that’s already there. The right kind of therapeutic chemical interference can trick your body into believing the DNA says something different than it actually does."
Adverse Reactions to COVID Vaccines
Many participants in every Covid-19 vaccine trial have reported adverse reactions including high fever, chills, muscle pains and headaches. Some have even reported severe reactions that required hospitalization and invasive treatment. Several health workers have experienced anaphylactic shock after receiving one dose of the approved vaccine. We don't know the long-term effects of these experimental new vaccines.
An mRNA vaccine against SARS-CoV-2 – preliminary report
New England Journal of Medicine, Nov. 12, 2020
"Adverse events that occurred in more than half the participants included fatigue, chills, headache, myalgia, and pain at the injection site. Systemic adverse events were more common after the second vaccination, particularly with the highest dose. Three participants (21%) in the 250-μg dose group reported one or more severe adverse events."
U.K. warns against giving Pfizer vaccine to people prone to severe allergic reactions
CBS News, Dec. 9, 2020.
"The warning came after two health care workers who got the vaccine ... suffered adverse reactions. NHS England said in a statement that both of the medical workers ... experienced anaphylactoid reactions to the Pfizer vaccine. [The CDC] has recommended that the vaccine be administered in settings that have supplies, including oxygen and epinephrine, to manage anaphylactic reactions."
2 Alaska Health Workers Got Emergency Treatment After Receiving Pfizer's Vaccine
New York Times, Dec. 16, 2020.
"Two health care workers at the same hospital in Alaska developed concerning reactions just minutes after receiving Pfizer's coronavirus vaccine this week, including one staff member who was to remain hospitalized until Thursday. The first worker, a middle-aged woman who had no history of allergies, had an anaphylactic reaction that began 10 minutes after receiving the vaccine. The woman was moved to the intensive care unit." (CNN reports a third was hospitalized two days later with anaphylactic shock, even though she had no history of allergies.)
Advisory Committee Meeting: FDA Briefing Document, Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 Vaccine
FDA/Pfizer, Dec. 10, 2020
Page 6: "Ongoing phase 3 randomized, double-blinded and placebo-controlled trial of BNT162b2 in approximately 44,000 participants. ... The most common solicited adverse reactions were injection site reactions (84.1%), fatigue (62.9%), headache (55.1%), muscle pain (38.3%), chills (31.9%), joint pain (23.6%), fever (14.2%); severe adverse reactions occurred in 0.0% to 4.6% of participants." (Editorial note: 4.6% means 1 in 21 people had severe reactions!)
Vaccines Will Not End Restrictive Measures
Dr. Anthony Fauci of the National Institutes of Health acknowledges that the vaccines may prevent symptoms but they are not focused on blocking spread of the virus, so vaccine recipients will still need to wear masks, practice social distancing and avoid crowds.
Early COVID-19 vaccines will only prevent symptoms, not block the virus
Yahoo! Finance, Oct. 26, 2020
"A key point to note, however, is that the vaccine isn’t an end-all solution to the pandemic. That’s in large part because any inoculations developed now are focused on simply preventing symptoms from arising, rather than blocking out the virus altogether."
Fauci says masks, social distancing will still be needed after a Covid-19 vaccine
CNBC, Nov. 16, 2020
"Fauci recommends people still wear masks and practice social distancing even after getting the vaccine. 'I would recommend to people to not abandon all public health measures just because you have been vaccinated.' Those fundamentals include: universal wearing of masks, maintaining physical distance, avoiding large crowds, doing more outdoor activities and washing hands frequently."
COVID-19 Vaccine Trials Not Designed to Measure Viral Spread or Deaths
Vaccine manufacturers are claiming that Covid-19 vaccines are 90 percent effective or more, but what does effective mean? Their studies are not designed to detect a reduction in viral spread or damaging outcomes such as severe illness, hospitalization or death.
Pfizer chairman: We're not sure if someone can transmit virus after vaccination
MSN News/The Hill, Dec. 3, 2020
“Pfizer chairman Albert Bourla told Dateline host Lester Holt that the pharmaceutical company was "not certain" if the vaccine prevented the coronavirus from being transmitted, saying, "This is something that needs to be examined."
Will covid-19 vaccines save lives? Current trials aren’t designed to tell us.
BMJ. (British Medical Journal), Oct. 21, 2020
“Ideally, you want an antiviral vaccine to do two things ... first, reduce the likelihood you will get severely ill and go to the hospital, and two, prevent infection and therefore interrupt disease transmission. Yet the current phase III trials are not actually set up to prove either."
Fauci: Early COVID-19 vaccines will only prevent symptoms, not block the virus
Yahoo! Finance, Oct. 26, 2020
“At least four candidates are near the finish line in the U.S. coronavirus vaccine race, but how well they will work remains a question. Any inoculations developed now are focused on simply preventing symptoms from arising, rather than blocking out the virus altogether."
Covid-19 vaccine protocols reveal that trials are designed to succeed
Forbes Magazine, Sept. 23, 2020
"Prevention of infection is not a criterion for success for any of these vaccines. In fact, their endpoints all require confirmed infections and all those they will include in the analysis for success, the only difference being the severity of symptoms between the vaccinated and unvaccinated."
These Coronavirus Trials Don’t Answer the One Question We Need to Know
New York Times, Sep. 21, 2020
“We may not find out whether the vaccines prevent moderate or severe cases of Covid-19. If you were to approve a coronavirus vaccine ... you would want to protect against the worst cases. But that’s not how the companies testing three of the leading coronavirus vaccine candidates, Moderna, Pfizer and AstraZeneca ... are approaching the problem. According to the protocols for their studies ... a vaccine could meet the companies’ benchmark for success if it lowered the risk of mild Covid-19, but was never shown to reduce moderate or severe forms of the disease, or the risk of hospitalization ... or death. Moderna and Pfizer acknowledge their vaccines appear to induce side effects that are similar to the symptoms of mild Covid-19."
